Season 2 officially got underway on July 10 in Plano, Texas, as the defending Pro Cheer League champions, Dallas Drive, became the first team to host tryouts for the upcoming season. If the first tryout is any indication of what's ahead, the level of talent across the league has reached another level.
From the moment athletes stepped onto the floor, the energy was undeniable. Returning PCL veterans, elite all-star athletes, and hopeful newcomers all arrived with one goal—to earn a spot on the defending champions' roster. What followed was one of the deepest and most competitive tryouts the league has seen.
Tumbling Stole the Show
One of the biggest storylines of the day was the level of tumbling on display.
Double backs, elite specialty passes, and high-level combinations were on full display throughout the tryout. Athletes consistently demonstrated exceptional difficulty, technique, and consistency, making a strong case for roster spots with every pass.
The depth of tumbling talent became even more apparent during Bullseye, Highest Tumbler, and brand-new games set to debut in Season 2. These game-focused evaluations highlighted not only individual skill but also the ability to perform under pressure in the league's unique head-to-head format.
The League's Best Continue to Raise the Bar
One of the most exciting storylines from the day was the number of familiar faces in attendance. Athletes who represented other Pro Cheer League teams during Season 1 competed for an opportunity to earn a spot with the defending champions, a reflection of just how competitive roster spots have become across the league. With so much elite talent under one roof, the level of competition was exactly what fans have come to expect from professional cheer.
Several athletes stood out so significantly that they received invitations to join the team during tryouts—a testament to the exceptional talent on display from start to finish.
The Standard Has Been Set
Dallas Drive is entering Season 2 as the defending champions, and after one day of tryouts, they are remindinhg everyone exactly why.
With Varsity Spirit President Bill Seely, Pro Cheer League Commissioner John Newby, and members of the Varsity Spirit leadership team in attendance, the day reflected the continued investment in the future of professional cheer and the continued growth of the Pro Cheer League.
The athletes in Plano made one thing clear: Season 2 is going to be more competitive than ever.
Now the question shifts to the rest of the league. Will the remaining teams meet the standard Dallas Drive established? Will they exceed it? Or will they fall short?
